The latest information on the Makers Of Theatre Festival 2008!

As you already know, this December - 11 Artists, 9 Staged Readings, 3 Nights and 1 Theatre Festival are taking place at The Albany.

The StoneCrabs Theatre Training Programme took on eleven fearless young participants (that's us!) to embark on a journey to learn the complex craft of directing. We believe that theatre is at its most successful when all the cogs in its machine are working in collaboration. Nine directors, one actor and a lighting designer, invite you to the Makers of Theatre Festival on the 11th, 12th, and 13th of December at the Albany Theatre in Deptford for a showcase of our work so far.

The ‘Makers of Theatre’ are a collaborative and diverse company; approaching theatre from different artistic and cultural perspectives. We aim to inspire further interest in the arts and provide a launching pad for fresh talent in the theatre. We work closely with a community venue and hope to encourage local community members to engage more with the arts. Our chosen plays will be staged as readings over three nights and range from the classical to the downright absurd, promising to be fresh and innovative with an open dialogue between audience and ‘maker’.

During a six-month training scheme, we are offered artistic and practical management tools and encouraged to find an individual approach to their chosen discipline. We also work alongside professional practitioners, learning from a well-established local theatre company.

StoneCrabs Theatre Training Programme is sponsored by The Jack Petchey Foundation, the BBC, and Awards for All. The course is designed to unlock our ‘creative potential’ and guide us towards a successful career in theatre. Graduates of the programme have gone on to stage their own productions. A recent example includes South London’s own, Bola Agbaje, writer of the Olivier award-winning play, Gone Too Far.

This is a chance to catch us in the early stages of their career. Don’t miss out!
